Antioxidants and Anti Aging

Over the years, consuming food high in antioxidants has proven to have effective anti aging effects. The Chinese, even before the term antioxidants came about, were already prescribing food and substances to cure illnesses, enhance certain attributes, increase vigor and vitality, and improve metabolism. In India, they have opted to incorporate these herbs into their food to achieve similar results to that of the Chinese. This is also true for the Peruvians and Brazilians.

Most plants contain substances that are beneficial to one’s metabolism. However, plants and fruits that have amino acids, and essential oils such as omega 3,6 and 9 are the ones that contain high levels of antioxidants which is an effective anti aging supplement. Foods with high amounts of glutathione and resveratrol are also said to be high in antioxidants.

Antioxidants are said to be an excellent way to protect the body from free radicals and toxins, which contribute to aging. Antioxidants work by slowing down and even preventing the oxidation process of the other molecules thereby making it one of the chosen anti aging treatments today. Some anti aging skin supplements that are high in antioxidants come in tablets, capsules, and even energy drinks.

Oxidation is a necessary process to sustain life but it could also be damaging.  This is why plants and animals maintain a complex process and high levels of antioxidants in various types. These include enzymes and sterols like catalase, some peroxides and superoxide dismutase. Today, Vitamin E and Vitamin C are the most common antioxidants and anti aging agents available in the market.

Two of the visible manifestations of a deficiency in antioxidants are stress and tiredness. Oxidative stress is a result of the lack of antioxidants, which can kill and damage cells in the body. Antioxidants are not only excellent anti aging supplements but are also an efficient preventive agent to a number of illnesses.

They have also shown effectiveness in the prevention of heart diseases, cancer cells and other ailments. Antioxidants are in such high demand that they can afford to command a certain price level on their own.

Coffee, berries and grapes are natural sources of high concentrations of antioxidants. Even red wine is said to have unbelievable anti oxidizing capabilities. This is the same reason why the French are said to be healthier in spite of the enormous amounts of cholesterol in their diet. Coffee in itself has a high concentration of antioxidants. It is what is mixed in with coffee that is worrisome. In Brazil, the acai berry is known to have huge amounts of antioxidants. Unfortunately, it is only Brazil that is lucky enough to consume it fresh.

Antioxidants are valuable anti aging supplements and are effective agents for the repairing of damaged cells.  They are also used as preservatives in food and cosmetic products and are utilized worldwide in some industrial applications where the degradation process needs to be slowed down or prevented.
