A detox diet is an effective way to cleanse the body especially since toxins are really harmful to the overall health of a person. Detox diets are composed of natural foods involving a lot of water and vegetables that you are encouraged to consume because they are good for you. Popular celebrities have often been heard to go on detox diets as well as those who have been known for alcohol and drug use. Detox diets are safe but should be used with caution because much like diet fads may also have some side effects especially on teenagers.
So as to avoid any misunderstanding, it is important to learn the language. Toxins are harmful substances or chemicals that are dangerous to the body. These toxins may come from food, water, pesticides used to grow the food, additives and preservatives used to prepare food, and even pollution from the air you breathe. All these toxins are processed in the liver and kidneys every day and then eliminated as sweat, urine and feces.
Supporters of detox diets claim that emotional stress and dehydration are the reasons why toxins stay in the body and are not properly flushed out during waste elimination. These toxins linger in the digestive and gastrointestinal systems including the skin, lymph and hair. These toxins are also the reasons behind headaches, acne, nausea and fatigue.
Going on a detox diet means temporarily avoiding foods that contain toxins. A detox diet means cleansing and purging your body from the harmful substances. Detox diets vary but most methods promise instant results. You must avoid certain foods for several days and then start reintroducing them again into your diet. A lot of detox diets would recommend you to go through a colon cleanse before you start with your actual diet. Other diets would suggest taking herbal supplements as a cleansing procedure.
There are a lot of available detox diets in the market. A liquid detox diet would normally last for one or two days, with next four to five days slowly introducing brown rice, fruits and steamed vegetables which are all organic. After a week, you start to include certain foods except for red meat, eggs, wheat, sugar and junk food.
People going through a detox diet are told to relax before meals, chew their food slowly and drink minimal amounts of liquid while eating. It is advised to add a glass of lemon juice with every meal.
There are many claims made about the positive effects of detox diets. Detox diets can prevent many illnesses and cure certain diseases if you would just go through it and stay focused. Regardless of the many benefits of a detox diet however, the decision is still up to you. You decide whether to try it out or not. This is because there have been no scientific facts to back up these diets that can strongly claim that it can really get rid of toxins in the body or cleanse it to make you healthier and more energized.
