The age of forty is said to be the tipping point for most men. This is a time when they feel confused and stressed. They are enveloped by a certain wanting for new and exciting things. Men’s health becomes a concern because of certain changes that they feel within them.

This crisis has undergone many studies to try and seek out its cause. Even medical science has devoted its time to come up with possible reasons and also try to find solutions to remedy the issues. Many solutions have come about in the form of pills, creams, formulas and even surgery.

The decline in hormone levels or menopause happens in both women and men. In men, it is referred to as andropause. It is during this time that men undergo an inner struggle. At age 40 these internal changes become more visible through exterior signs in terms of family, social and career interactions.

As a man ages and reaches the age of 50 to 70, these symptoms become more apparent. Symptoms such as erectile dysfunction, reduced energy, mood swings, palpitations and exhaustion appears. A lot of men have reported regular incidences of erectile dysfunction as they hit andropause.

Palpitations are a result of the decrease in testosterone levels in the body. The over reaction of the autonomic system triggers these palpitations. This is a natural occurrence in men who are undergoing andropause.

Men, who used to be active and driven by their careers, take a turn by transitioning into becoming more sociable and closer to their family and friends. Although, there are some who choose to discover a totally different change in their lifestyle but is still a result of their andropause process.

Medical science has tried to provide remedies for the symptoms of male menopause. The problem is that many men refuse to consult a doctor or seek treatment. It is mostly because it is a blow to their male ego to be thought of as needy, dependent or vulnerable and this is one of the biggest challenges that wives have to face.

One way to try and convince a man to consult a doctor is by going with him to an expert. By accompanying the man, the doctor may fish out vital information needed for the diagnosis and treatment. To help do away with any inhibitions, the interviews may also be done separately.

As part of the examination for andropause, shrinkage of testicles, hair loss, a decrease in sex drive, depression, exhaustion, erectile dysfunction, oligospermia, reduction of bone densisty, and decrease in muscle strength are checked.

It is advisable for the wives to be more supportive and understanding of their husbands during andropause because of the stress it gives men. Men who are undergoing andropause should be given positive encouragement to manage his alcohol intake and cigarette consumption, to eat healthier foods, to relax and to exercise.

Andropausal men need the support of their family so that he could go through the process as smoothly as possible.
